Our Mission and Values
Our mission is simple: to cultivate the qualities of the heart and mind that lead to awakening and compassionate living. We are dedicated to the following principles:
Zen Buddhism's Precepts as Our Guide
We uphold and honor the fundamental precepts of Zen Buddhism as our ethical foundation. In each breath and action, we strive to embody the teachings of right speech, right action, and right livelihood, fostering harmony within ourselves and our world.
Healthy Relationships with Boundaries
We recognize that nurturing healthy relationships begins with cultivating a deep awareness of self. We encourage the practice of mindfulness to understand our own boundaries, to respect the boundaries of others, and to create spaces where authentic connections can flourish.
Embracing Impermanence and Non-Attachment
Inspired by the teachings of impermanence and non-attachment, we seek to release ourselves from the grip of suffering caused by clinging and aversion. In this way, we find peace and freedom in the midst of life's constant changes.
The Heart of Compassion
Our sangha holds compassion as the cornerstone of our practice. We extend loving-kindness to all beings, acknowledging the interconnectedness of our lives, and work diligently to alleviate suffering wherever we encounter it.
Meditation and Mindfulness
We uphold the practices of zazen (meditation) and mindfulness as transformative tools to still the mind and awaken to the present moment. Through dedicated practice, we learn to find clarity and equanimity amid life's challenges.

Community Without Walls
Although we have no physical temple, we are a community without walls, united by our shared commitment to Zen principles. We come together periodically to sit in meditation, share in the dharma, and support each other on our spiritual journey.
Inclusivity and Openness
Our sangha is open to all who seek the path of awakening, regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation or gender identity. We embrace diversity and welcome all with open hearts.
We strive to embody the timeless wisdom of Zen Buddhism in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, Darlene Cohen and Peter van der Sterre , nurturing our own enlightenment while fostering compassion and understanding in the world. Together, we walk this path of awakening, cultivating the qualities of the heart that lead us toward a life of meaning, purpose and ethical behavior.
